Ipsy Glambag, August 2017

2017-08-16 12.22.33.jpg

This is an exploration and review of my August Glam bag from Ipsy and the products I received and have or have not yet tried.

2017-08-16 12.22.20

First of all, this bag is freaking adorable. It is right up my ally: I don’t love pink, but the fade and the message on the front and extremely me! “Good Vibes” is my motto, my Avon team name, and one of my favorite, go-to lines. I was so excited to see that I got this option out of the two, because it is SO perfect for me!

This is all of the booklet/paper stuff from this month’s bag. The larger booklet contained lots of info on their new Shopper program that gives you cash back when you shop online! I have used this program already (I got 25% cash back on a DLS Kitty blush to match my gorgeous, favorite highlighter Bellissima) and I am a fan.

The first product in my Ipsy bag this month was

LXMI Crème du Nil Pore-Refining Moisture Veil

in a .3 fl. oz. size. I think this is a pretty nice size for a moisturizer sample, because it is often enough to last a few weeks and really see how it works for your skin. I have not opened or tried this one yet–it is in my bag of moisturizers to try!

Next up was the

EYEKO Black Magic Mascara Deluxe

and I am very excited to try this! I have never tried a mascara in a tube like this one. The Eyeko liquid liner I have is absolutely amazing, so I have high hopes for this product. However, I have received so many mascaras lately that I have not had a chance to get into this one yet. It looks intriguing!

The third product in this Glam Bag was this

AURORA Pro Color Corrector in Pistachio

which I was a little nervous about. I have never really used a color corrector before. However, this is the perfect choice for a first one, because redness is my main skin concern (besides dryness). I used it for the first time today and really liked it! It is thin, so it is easy to blend, but it has enough coverage that it makes a real difference. I am very happy with what it does for my skin so far, and the liquid formula is really best for my dry skin.

The final product in this Ipsy bag was

theBalm Cosmetics
theBalm Voyage Vol. 2 Eyeshadow in Kuwakaribisha

which I am extremely happy with as a highlighter! It is a very pretty champagne kind of color that catches the light in a truly beautiful fashion. The first time I wore it I accidentally overapplied it, almost like a blush, and it was still really pretty (even though it was a little flashy, lol). The Balm shadows and shades that I get from ipsy are really neat to me, because they all come in these cute little book things. They can get a little dried out or difficult to get to, but overall I think it is a really neat way to try a whole pan of their products.

Ipsy Unboxing, July 2017

July’s bag was an adorable gudetama¬†theme! The bag is thick and plasticky, very sturdy. I thought it was hilarious that his little butt is on the back! The idea behind this bag was easy/lazy makeup days and taking good care of your skin.

The first item in my Glambag was the Ofra Gold Rush eye shadow. This single went straight into my Z Palette. It is pretty and I have never had an Ofra eye shadow before, so I was excited to try it.

It seems like I get a lot of gold and bronze eye shadows, though, and I am not a big warm-tones person, so it will take me quite a while to get through them. I know a lot of people like them, though, so I understand why Ofra would choose a shadow like this to send out.

The second item in my Ipsy bag was the Ciate¬†London Wonderwand Gel-Kohl Liner with a brush smudger. I was very interested in trying out this product. I’ve used it a few times. It is very inky black, which I love, and applies very smoothly with no tugging. The brush smudger is very interesting and easy to use.

It is very inky black, which I love, and applies very smoothly with no tugging. The brush smudger is very interesting and easy to use. However, I had the issue I usually have with non-liquid liners: transfer. I have hooded lids and this liner definitely transferred up onto my upper lid pretty badly.I will try it again to see if I can get it thin enough not to do it, but it drives me crazy.

I will try it again to see if I can get it thin enough not to do it, but it drives me crazy. The only non-liquid liner I’ve ever had not transfer is the Avon Glimmersticks.

The next product to come out of my Ipsy bag was this herbal lip balm from Hempz. After I rated the lotion I got before highly, it made me more likely to get more from them, which is one of my favorite ideas behind the ipsy bags. The more you rate the products you get, the more personalized your bags become! I like this lip balm so far: it has a little bit of a pineapple kind of smell, I think. It feels really nice on the lips.

The next item in my bag was this BRTC Jasmine Waterful Sleeping Pack. I have not tried it out yet.

The last item in my bag was this Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Ultra-Natural Mascara. I haven’t tried it yet, because I’m almost done with my Wide Awake mascara and my Grande mascara from a previous Ipsy bag.

2017-07-15 12.13.56

Overall, my July ipsy bag was really cool, and I am really excited to try it all out. I feel like this bag could be a whole face of makeup all on its own, which is really cool to me.

What did you get in your July Ipsy bag? Have you tried some of the items that I got? What do you think?

Review of May Ipsy Unboxing & Products

2017-05-24 09.47.13It has been a while now since I opened up my May Ipsy bag, and I would love to go back over what I got and what I think of it so far. I had an amazing value of products in this assortment and was very impressed! If you’d like to sign up for ipsy, there is no waitlist for a limited time: I would appreciate it if you decide to sign up through my referral link.

2017-05-24 09.46.37

The bag for May was really cute. I like the size, it is a little longer and skinnier than a lot of the other ipsy bags. It is a see-through plastic texture with ice creams and popsicles on both sides. It is a great choice for summer bags or to take to the lake (I can fit my sunscreen in it!).

2017-05-24 09.44.09

Hempz Pomegranate Herbal Body Moisturizer

I have been wanting to try Hempz products for a long time, but I always have so much Skin So Soft, gifts, and sample sizes to try around that I don’t often experiment outside that. It smells nice but is not strong or overwhelming. It seems to sink into the skin easily. The texture is very thin, but still moisturizing.

I still prefer my Skin So Soft, but this is fine. It’s good to know that I don’t need to spend the money on more, but I will certainly use it up without complaint.

Urban Decay Afterglow Highlighter in Sin

I received an Urban Decay duo chrome¬†eyeshadow called Lounge in my first Glam Bag and wasn’t sure how much I loved it (because I expected green and the main shade is actually reddish-brown). I was a little nervous, but hopeful! The pan size is really big, especially for a high-quality brand in an ipsy bag.I have worn it several times now, and it is pretty. The formula

I have worn it several times now, and it is pretty. The formula is very nice and smooth. It is shimmery but not glittery. Unfortunately, it’s pretty gold for me. I am very fair and usually wear a peachy or pearly highlight and very cool tones in everything else, so it will probably take me a while to work through. I know a lot of warmer complexioned friends this would be pretty on, so maybe I can use it on them and pass it along if one of them loves it.

2017-05-24 09.45.32

Royal & Langnickel Precision Angled Brush

It’s hard to tell just how large this brush is in the photo, but if you check out the video, you will really be able to see it. This brush is the same shape as the angled Royal & Langnickel eye brush I received in a previous ipsy bag, but much larger.

I was a little confused about what to do with this brush at first but then thought to try it with the highlighter. That worked really well! After some playing with it, I like to use it for highlighter and setting my concealer.

2017-05-24 09.45.43

Grande Lash Boosting Mascara

The first few days of using this mascara weren’t so great, and I was worried. But it turns out that, like many mascaras, the first few days the formula was just too wet. After that, it got so much better!I am actually a definite fan of this mascara–it is especially great for length.

I am a definite fan of this mascara–it is especially great for length. I will be really sad when it dries up or runs out, but I don’t think I’ll ever be willing to spend the $25 on a new one!¬†ūüėĪ

I’d rather spend a few dollars on my very favorite Wide Awake mascara and benefit my business.¬†ūü§∑

Pacifica Island Life Natural Mineral Eyeshadow Palette

This little eyeshadow palette is great quality. I was really excited that it is vegan and cruelty-free. It looks even better on the eyes than it does in swatches–basically, it comes off more metallic and pigmented on the eyes than in the swatches.

These are not the kinds of shades I usually use (I usually gravitate toward cool tones and these are certainly warm), but they are pretty and when I do reach for them, I feel good while pushing my personal boundaries.

Isn’t that what ipsy is really all about: experimenting and trying new things?

$17 for $100+ of Makeup! Awesome Glambot Haul (& Some Mini Reviews)

I am really enjoying creating these Glambot hauls and getting to try out new makeup that I wouldn’t have been able to access or afford otherwise. This time I spent $17, $5 of which was on shipping, and received over $100 worth of products!

I got a $1 and a $3 face product, a $1 and a $3 lip product, and a $1 and a $3 eye product. The products from the Dollar Store section or bundles are random, like a grab bag kind of thing, which I think is really fun and exciting!

The following links include referral codes and affiliate links. This is part of what makes it possible for me to spend so much time creating content. If you do not wish to contribute to me with your clicks, just Google things.

Too Faced Hangover Primer 5 mL

Paid: $1

Value: $7.50

https://www.glambot.com/too-faced-hangover-replenishing-face-primer-mini-5ml?affid=73sbrkabo

I have tried a mini like this of this product before. I know that it is an extremely popular product. I like it because it is moisturizing and smells good, but also sinks in quickly. That is always a pro because I try to get ready fairly quickly before work in the mornings.

It is a product that I enjoy receiving and am happy to use, but I wouldn’t purchase it for myself because I have much more inexpensive ones that I like. I do think it is a great product, though!

Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals Original Mineral Veil .57g

Paid: $3

Value: $12

https://www.amazon.com/Bare-Escentuals-Mineral-Veil-0-02/dp/B0018PJ2EG

I don’t know how much use I will really get out of this powder for one reason: I have very dry skin, so¬†I don’t use much powder. However, now that we are starting to get into the heat of the summer months, I am more likely to give it a try.

Don’t expect it in a makeup graveyard anytime soon, but I might give it a try. I have some of my Avon Smooth Minerals in Translucent Glow that I like so much left yet, though, so maybe not. (I might just pop it into my upcoming giveaway! More details coming soon.)

Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 in Rose, .07 oz

Paid: $1?

Value: $24 for .15 oz, $17.97 on Amazon for this size (what I used for value)

https://www.amazon.com/Fresh-Sugar-ROSE-Tinted-Treatment/dp/B005IS51WQ

The values of my two lip items were very similar, so I chose to delegate this as the $1 item, just because it is more of a trial-size, rather than the next item’s full-size.

I am always happy to receive and try out lip treatments. It seems like my lips are chapped or dry more often than they’re not. I drink tons of water, do lip scrubs, and put on lip balms and such all the time but they are chapped when they want to be, it seems like.

I have started using this product, and I like it. It has a very nice scent and I think that it feels very nice on the lips. I am very happy that it has SPF in it. However: don’t keep it in your pockets or apply it without at least glancing in a mirror (at least, if you’re fair-skinned like I am).

I kept mine in my pocket one day and I¬†think it got too hot: it broke and kinda…¬†slipped all over the place? I was patient with it and apply it carefully so I don’t have to throw it away, but it is extremely annoying. It’s probably fragile because it is a soft treatment and not a dense pigment or something. But it is more pigmented than any “tinted” lip product I have tried! I always have to check a mirror when I reapply it or somebody will inevitably tell me I have “stuff all over.”

Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Lodhi

This color is really pretty, though it is more pink than I probably would choose for myself. That’s part of the fun of these Glambot hauls though: I am challenged to try products and shades I may not have chosen for myself!

In my research on the value of these products, I found that many people were frustrated that these pencils have to be sharpened a lot–every time or every other time you use them! I have only worn this once so far and did not think that it wore down scary fast, but I will let you know once I have used it more.

Nyx Nude Matte Shadow Refill in Not Today

Paid: $1

Value: $4.49

http://www.ulta.com/nude-matte-eyeshadow?productId=xlsImpprod4141605

I really like this shadow so far! I have used it to darken up eye looks and smoke out edges and I am definitely a fan. Especially looking at a price tag less than $5! This shadow performs incredibly. I stuck it in my Z palette and it has been a go-to to pair with my shimmery singles from Avon and mark.

Benefit Peek-A-Bright Eyes Illuminating Kit

Paid:$3

Value: $32

 https://www.glambot.com/benefit-peek-a-bright-eyes-illuminating-kit?affid=73sbrkabo

This was a pleasant surprise when I pulled it out–I didn’t expect a little palette for the $3 category! I could not find it online anywhere except Glambot and the UK version of the Benefit site. This is the first product I have ever received from Glambot that you could even tell it was used. I really don’t mind because there’s no way I could finish entire pans of all this makeup in a reasonable amount of time.

The little pot of creamy stuff at the end was a little confusing to me. It is sheer, as far as I can tell, and tacky. I think it may be supposed to be used as some kind of base? I have used this palette a couple of times, but have not experimented with that yet. On my next day off that I spend at home, I might give it a go that way. Have you ever seen or owned this palette? Do you know what that is or what it is for, or have an educated guess?

So far in trying this out, however, it seems like just an expensive version of the Wet N Wild Walking on Eggshells mini palette, perhaps. I will do some more experimenting with it (and that weird stuff) and see what I think. Would anybody be interested in some kind of dupe/comparison video or post focused on that?

In the end, this is another Glambot haul that I am very happy with and excited about. (I have another in the works, too, if that tells you how much I enjoy it!) Do you like them? Would you or have you tried it?

#GotItFree: Poppy Voxbox from Influenster

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

actualthumbnail.png

It’s always exciting finding a Voxbox in the mail! It’s free products in exchange for a promise to review them and complete activities, all through Influenster.

I opened my Poppy Voxbox late last¬†week. I just finished my last school final (ever!) last night, so now I can finally put together a good post about it. I am extremely excited to try everything out: I’ve never tried any of the products from this box!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The first thing in the box is a sample size packet of the Nyakio Kenyan Coffee Face Polish. I was very glad that the card had pronunciation information on it¬†because I always have issues and never would have gotten that right! I have never tried a face polish/exfoliator before. I have sensitive skin that is prone to redness and blotches, so I’m not sure how this product will work for me. However, I have a coffee lip scrub that I love! I will update or post again when I try this out!

2017-04-21 14.26.19
Eva NYC dry shampoo and coupon

The next item in the box was this Eva NYC Freshen Up dry shampoo. I was really excited for this product! I received a sample size of the 10-in-1 Mane Magic in a recent Ipsy bag and I love the smell of it and how my hair feels and looks afterward! I really love and rely on dry shampoos. With my purple hair and the slowly warming weather, they help get me a few more days between washes to preserve color and keep from worrying.

I have tried this product out and I like it! It is not extremely strong, but it works for me on mildly oily days. Plus, it smells nice! Another positive is that it doesn’t cause a lot of white cast,¬†thank goodness. That is what drives me crazy and leads me away from certain dry shampoos.

2017-04-21 14.26.50
Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion

The next item in my Voxbox was this Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion. It is for Very Dry Skin and has almond oil in it. I have seen these before and was curious about them, but have never tried an in-shower treatment like this. I love the Nivea lip balms in the little tins that I have and my skin is usually dry, so hopefully, I will enjoy this and it will work for me. I will update here or post when I try it out.

2017-04-21 14.27.19
Tide Pods with Downy and coupon

Then there was this packet and coupon. I received a single Tide laundry pod to try out and a $2 off coupon to get more if I like them. I have not tried these out because they have always seemed too expensive. However, if I could get them on a deal with coupons and Target Cartwheel discount, maybe they would be worth it. I will update or post when I try this product out!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

These two Rimmel cosmetics were the next things that came out of this great Voxbox. The micro precision eyeliner has an ultra fine tip and is waterproof. The Oh My Gloss! is in the shade Master Pink and has a thin, flexible, double-sided style of doe foot applicator.

I have been testing out these products for the last few days and I like them fine. The eyeliner is really extremely thin and tiny, so if you like precision, this is the liner for you! It really is budge-proof, which is great for wings like I like. If you like big liner or big wings, it will probably take you a little time to build it up because of how small this tip is.

The gloss isn’t sticky–thank goodness, because I cannot stand sticky glosses! It isn’t a strong color, either, just a light shine. Because of the pale pink shade, it does look a little funny where it builds up along the edges if I’m not looking in a mirror when I put it on. It also wears off super fast. Personally, I will stick with my Ultra Glazewear glosses instead, because I think that they are much longer lasting and I like the shades and trust my Avon True Color cosmetics.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The final item in this Voxbox is this pack of 7th Heaven foot masques. They are supposed to get your feet ready for summer and sandal season. My feet are weird though, and I get clammy if I’m not wearing socks, so I don’t know how much they will be able to do for me. I also wear a size 10, so I wonder how big these are. I will update or post when I try this product out!

Thanks so much for checking out this unboxing! What do you think of these products? Have you tried any of them? I would love any comments or suggestions about using them.

Best Wishes,

Josie

mark. Eye Daydream of Glam Palette (with Swatches!)

2017-04-28 15.30.04 The mark. Eye Daydream of Glam palette is a 16-shade eyeshadow palette from mark. by Avon. It was recently discontinued and will only be available until they run out of them. It is available at Outlet price here.

The original price of this palette was $40, and it is on Outlet (which is basically clearance) for $19.99. This distributes out to about $1.25 per shadow, and they are quite large pans! They are beautifully marbled and the shimmering,  iridescent shades are just lovely.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Here are swatches of the 16 shades, done with just my fingertips. I did use flash to show the shimmer in them!

I think that this palette is beautiful, especially if you like shimmer and/or iridescent shadows. For the money, you get a whole lot of makeup, too! They are beautiful and have such a wide variety here.

$5 for $28 Worth of Makeup: Glambot Haul, April 2017

$5 Haul GB bigger

I opened up another Glambot haul today! This is my second haul from their “Dollar Store” grab bag section. (I thought that I had posted about my first haul but just realized that I didn’t finish the post! I will link it here when it is complete. Finals time, I swear!)

This time, I only spent $5. After my first order, I got an email to complete a survey about my experience. After I finished it, I got a code for $5 off my next order! So I knew I would need to do another fun surprises haul for you. (It’s not like I have enough makeup… ūüėČ )

So, I spent $5: a $1 face item, a $1 eyes item, and a $3 eyes item. That is everything that I could get to add to my cart because all of the dollar store items were being moved to “The Vault.” I hope that’s not the new norm, because I am loving this fun Dollar Store. Anyway, with my order being under the Free Shipping mark, shipping would be another $5. My $5 off code made all of the items in my cart free and I just paid for the shipping.

$1 Face Item: Benefit Porefessional, 0.10 fl oz

Value: $4.80

I have never tried anything from Benefit, but I hear about how awesome Porefessional¬†is on Youtube alllll the time. I am super excited to try it out for myself! I couldn’t find anywhere selling this exact size, so I am guessing that it is the sample size they give in beauty boxes and free gifts with purchase and stuff like that.¬†The .25 oz version is $12 from Ulta, so proportionately that would give this size a value of $4.80.

2017-04-20 10.44.10

These are the swatches for my Eyes items with flash.

$1 Eyes Item: Colourpop Super Shock Shadow (I’m not sure what shade this is though, because the sticker is peeled off of the bottom. What do you think?)

Value: $5.70 new on Glambot, $6 full-price

I was super excited about this shadow! I actually had been really hoping that I would get one in this haul because I hear about them all of the time, again usually on Youtube. I know that many of my favorite beauty Youtubers have whole videos (sometimes multiple!) about their favorite Colourpop shadows. This is a more affordable brand, but not one available in stores, so I probably wouldn’t have gone on their website to order, just to be honest. This metallic-looking navy shade is pretty, and I noticed that in the sun it is sparkly. If you have¬†any idea which shade it might be, please let me know! I was browsing and thought perhaps Baby T (which is linked above), Luckfully, or Rex? It is hard to tell the difference between them on the computer screen, I guess.

$3 Eyes Item: MAC Crushed Metallic Pigment Stack in Lantern Light and Campfire

Value: $17.50

I was excited as soon as I saw MAC coming out of the bubble wrap! This is another¬†brand that I’ve never been able to afford but have always been curious about. Now this one took me a minute to figure out: this stack of pigments is actually half of a set of two stacks, the Aloha set. The set of two has a value of $35, so just one stack would be $17.50 I believe, because I couldn’t find this one sold by itself.

2017-04-20 10.44.00

Here are my swatches without flash.

What do you think of the items that I received? Have you used any of them? Do you have any tips for me on how to get the most out of them (especially those loose crushed pigments)? Do you think that the value was good and worth it? Would you try Glambot?

If you are interested in trying Glambot for yourself, you can use this referral link to get $10 off your order!
